Michèle's Portfolio - Auto Body Panels, Inc.

These are the main articles I worked on while working in-house for Auto Body Panels, Inc.(ABP). I was hired in late August of 1999 - to take care of their yearly catalog. The catalog was originally created in Adobe PageMaker, however, the previous edition was literally physically cutting and pasting pieces of section to one page and then scanning the page, and giving that to their printer.

I had never seen anything quite like it. I helped them upgrade the catalog and kept it organized by Make, Model and then by Year - from latest model to classic. I created a database in excel so there was an easy placement of newest parts to the catalog readily. I really wanted to help them in creating a catalog that didn't take 50+ hours a week during deadline month due to late addition of parts - that were not really new that month, but had been new three months ago.

That was my hardest point to get across. Being their catalog had a background - if a vehicle part was added to the current listing - one part didn't really make much of a difference, but usually if a part fit one car - it may fit four others, by other Makes. So in reality it wasn't one part - it was more like 5 parts being added at one time - multiply that by 250 parts being added - then it is not just lines being added but pages. Not that I am complaining - it was always a challenge, and I knew there was a better way, but with all 'better ways' someone has to be on the ball to always remind the person in part acquisition to let me know when there were new parts.

When not working on their catalog, I started making a company newsletter, with important information for employees: drivers, warehouse and office personnel. It was a very fun project. I also helped the company save money by making business cards in-house. I helped them obtain a 'free color laser' printer, by signing up to 'market test' a printer from Xerox.

I also updated and created invoices, forms, and their logo, so they could have a scalable image to use with any end product - such as web ready images and banners at the races.

Below are samples of items I created: (To View items in Firefox, use your mouse to right-click and choose "View Image"; to view items in Internet Explorer - use your mouse and right-click and choose "Save Image As" - a window will open and ask you were to save the file. So you can view it with any photo imaging program or flash player)
